Whilst on maternity leave a few years back, I got a letter in the post from my employer that my role was going to change. I was given the option of a demotion or quit and leave. I was demoralised for a while and had a huge pity party for myself. After been down in the dumps for a few months, I came out on the other side with an action plan. I was determined to make the most of my talents and step outside the box.
I honestly did not have a clue about what to do. I guess the anger of redundancy fuelled my desire to create my own path and forge ahead. That was how Business First Steps was born.
When I look back now, all I can say is ‘what a worthwhile journey’. If anyone had told me in 2008 that I will become an idea catalyst and help people realise their personal goals, I would have checked what they were drinking.
You may be facing some changes in your vocation/life right now and all you can of is the problem. Take my advice, worrying and anxiety does not make the problem smaller or ease the pain.
Are you considering social media or other online platforms to promote what you do? Do not despair.
If you have been selling the same product or service for a while, could it be time to embrace change – technology advancements, social media etc?
Here are some tips to help you embrace change:
Be Flexible – we are going to encounter many variables in this world and we cannot control all of them. A flexible attitude to life will help you roll with the punches.
Check your Expectation – are your expectations realistic? Sometimes we expect more than can be delivered and allow frustration to take hold of us. Release yourself from unrealistic expectations and be continue to give your best.
Step Out – it can be fearful to take a step out of what you are used to, but do take that step even if you have to do it afraid. Remember if you do not start, you can’t get better.
Be Proactive – a pity party does not produce any good result, it just prolongs the inevitable. Think, dream, wish but do take action. The action you take determines the results you will achieve.
Embrace Change – positive things can only come from change if you embrace it when it confronts you. Too many people run away from change and stay on the run for many years.
You have more in you to effect the positive change that comes with any challenge. An objective view plays an important role in what you will achieve.
If you need support to embrace these changes, an exploration session will help you find the clarity you need. You are a winner and do not see yourself otherwise – just roll with the punches, stand up and show up.
